Tips for traveling to Lhasa, Tibet
Lhasa, the city of sunlight, it is the most unique and fascinating city in the world. Because of Lhasa’s cultural relics and religious atmosphere, this place is already become the travelers’ paradise.
There are three tips for everyone who wants to travel to Lhasa, Tibet.
1. How to get there
By air: From China, most people fly to Lhasa from Chengdu, more than 12 flights every day at 6:00 am and 14:05 pm. But a few people choose Xi’an for departure city because of business reason. From outside China, it is only possible from Kathmandu.
By Rail: The Qinghai-Tibet railway was completed in July 2006. You can take the train from Beijing to Lhasa, if this is your first time to travel to Lhasa, I think this is your best choose, you can enjoy the beauty of nature on the way and it might help you acclimatize to the altitude a bit better.
2. What about the climate in Lhasa?
Spring and Autumn are dry, 10-20C at daytime and 0-5C at nighttime.
Summer has some rainfall and is 15- 25C at daytime, 10C at nighttime. Sunlight is extremely intense. Sunscreen lotion, a salve for the lips and sunglasses are a must.
Most people say April to October is the best time because of the pleasantly warm. But I think if you want to go, every time is the best time because of your traveling feeling.
3. What to must see
Potala Palace: The most valuable storehouse in Tibet, is famous for its grand buildings, complicated constructions, devotional atmosphere and splendid artworks, named as one of the “New Seven Wonders of the World”.
Norbulingka ParkNorbulingka Park: Built in 1751 as the summer residence of the Dalai Lama, it contains some fabulous murals fusing Tibetan history and myth. Today this once forbidden palace is ideal for quite strolls and lazy afternoons.
Lake Namtso: Lake Namtso is located on the north Tibetan grassland, more than 200 kilometers away from Lhasa. Rising 4,718 meters above sea level and covering an area of 1,920 square kilometers, the lake has 70 kilometers in length from east to west and 30 kilometers in width from south to north. Meanwhile Lake Namtso is the second largest saltwater lake in China next to Qinghai Lake. It is also the highest saltwater lake in the world.
